Pre-Sync Preparation Checklist

Complete these checks before calibrating your song. Each item ensures the best starting point for accurate sync.

Step 1: Configure BPM Settings

Set the correct BPM and mode for your custom song. Accurate BPM is the foundation of good sync.

Find Your BPM

Use our BPM Calculator to determine exact BPM. Alternatively, use a tap-tempo tool or look up the song on SongBPM.com or Tunebat.com. Tap along for 10-15 seconds for best accuracy.

Step 1A

Choose a Mode

Select Half-Time for slow songs (under 100 BPM), Normal for most songs (100-150 BPM), or Double-Time for fast songs (150+ BPM). The right mode keeps beat spacing comfortable.

Step 1B

Enter in Game

Open Dead as Disco's My Music / Infinite Disco. Select your song and enter the BPM values. Use the in-game BPM setter to input your calculated numbers exactly.

Step 2: Calibrate Audio Offset

Adjust the offset to compensate for audio latency between your ears and the game's beat detection.

Offset Tuning Process

  1. Start at 0ms — Begin with no offset applied.
  2. Test timing — Play the first 30 seconds and note whether hits feel early or late.
  3. Adjust direction — Hits early = increase offset (positive). Hits late = decrease offset (negative).
  4. Small increments — Adjust by 10ms each test. Never jump more than 20ms at once.
  5. Re-test — Play the same 30-second section after each adjustment.
  6. Lock in — When hits feel natural, save the offset value.

Common Offset Starting Points

Audio SetupSuggested OffsetNotes
Wired headphones (PC)0-10 msUsually near-zero
PC speakers10-30 msDepends on distance
Bluetooth headphones100-250 msHigh variance
Steam Deck speakers0-15 msBuilt-in audio

Wireless headset (2.4G)5-20 msMuch better than BT

Step 3: Test and Verify Sync

Run through this verification checklist to confirm your song is perfectly synced.

Sync Quality Scale (1-5)

RatingDescriptionWhen to Use
5 - PerfectZero noticeable drift, hits land exactly on beat throughout entire songConstant BPM songs with wired audio
4 - ExcellentTiny drift after 60+ seconds, still very playableWell-calibrated songs with minor audio quirks
